Garth’s paintings have incorporated digital printing, direct printing and hand painting in the same picture.

“For me, creating stand alone, digital prints is ‘painting’ by other means, and in a format that is accessible to a broader audience. Figure/ground relationships are explored when painted shapes and marks are added to a surface of printed images; they interweave: foreground with background, line and colour, printing and painting, scanned images and abstract shapes, to create a dynamic colour space and a rich metaphorical, pictorial identity. Digital printing, a more rapid medium, is related to the slow changing character of my paintings: intimate, accessible, mutable, hands-on and individually experienced.”
