Vicki Painting  –  Short days Short Weeks

We are excited to be hosting a Meet the Artist with our current solo artist Vicki Painting.

The Meet and Greet will take place next Saturday on the 25th November between 2 and 4 pm. It will be a casual event where you can ask questions and chat about the current show, and Vicki’s current doctoral research at the University of Brighton.

The show runs until 2nd December 5pm

Through print, film and installation Vicki Painting investigates the embodied experience of her mother at the final stage of life. This exhibition seeks to understand the end-of-life process not only as a personal experience but what this also means in social and political terms. Together mother and daughter have co-constructed a visual narrative which demonstrates how the domestic space and those who reside within it can slowly become institutionalised once the care infrastructure is invited in. Aware of the structural inequalities inherent within the care system, they have utilised magical realism as a framework to disguise the actors involved and to demonstrate the struggle for agency within the system.

Vicki Painting (b.1961) has a Masters in Documentary Photography from the University of South Wales and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Brighton.

Open Wednesday to Friday 1 to 5pm and Saturday 11am to 5pm
